My fortune cookie said, " You will be taking a chance somewhere in the near future." These are some of my sketches.
This first one is pretty rough, but the idea was to cut out a paper doll chain and draw on one of them. I was then planning on mailing it to somebody to draw on another template and so on until all of them are filled. This might even be to people that I do not know.
This idea was inspired by the book "The Five Sisters" by Margaret Mahy. I read it when I was younger, and it took a very very long time to find the title and the author.
I used the story and illustration of my snow queen for this next sketch. As she watches the geese fly away, she has no regrets of the chance she took in caring for them.
These next two sketches were inspired by a combination of "The Secret Garden," "The Phantom Tollbooth," and "Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus." We come across a lot of doors in our lives, and I saw a great chance in being given the opportunity to find out what is behind this particular door.

Character Project Reference Pages
Men references
Women references
1900 Germany Cultural references
The characters should look different from the original Miyazaki "Kiki's Delivery Service," and I could also change the time period, if the story does not depend on it too much. I chose Germany in 1900. Germany's bakeries are world renown, and the first zeppelin was flown in 1900 as well, so I thought this would be a suitable year: one where the idea of flying machines was still quite a new phenomenon.

"Kiki's Delivery Service" Character Project part 2
Hong wanted us to model this week's sketches off of a certain style, so I am relating my style to Cartoon Saloon's "The Secret of Kells," Headless Productions, "Triplets of Belleville," and a little bit of "Hey Arnold!"

"Kiki's Delivery Service" Character Project
New Class! New Project! This assignment is to choose a Miyazaki film and conceptualize the four characters of our choice. I chose "Kiki's Delivery Service"
I start out really rough on sketches
In this assignment, we will be learning about 2-dimensional characters, so Hong wants us to stylize them as much as we can and push them as far as they will go.
not quite, but getting there.
fat cat to lighten the mood
